WorldSkills Lyon 2024 – see tips and links for the competition week

The Finnish vocational skills team will participate in the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon on 10–15 September. This major event is a global meeting place for audiences interested in TVET. You can find important links about the competition in this news item.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024

The vocational skills competition WorldSkills will take place in Lyon, France, between 10 and 15 September 2024. A more detailed schedule of the week is available on the website 'Information for Finnish spectators', link below.

The competition comprises a total of 62 skills represented by professionals in different fields of vocational education, ranging from practical nurses to welders and from chefs to electricians. A total of 1,500 competitors around the world will participate. Eurexpo Lyon Fair Centre is expecting 250,000 visitors.

The right to organise WorldSkills competitions is granted by WorldSkills International (WSI), an organisation with 89 member countries. The Finnish national team is gathered and transported by Skills Finland, which is a member of WSI, in cooperation with vocational education institutions.

The event is free of charge, but all competition guests must register on the competition organiser's website.

Team Finland

Team Finland consists of 22 Competitors and 22 Experts. Finnish competitors will take part in 20 skills.

The public are able to watch the progress of the skills close-up, which makes the event interesting for visitors and exciting for the competitors. Please remember, however, that it is absolutely forbidden to talk to the competitors or otherwise disrupt them during their performance. Try to also avoid speaking Finnish in the immediate vicinity of the Finnish competitor's workstation. If you want to observe a competitor's performance for an extended period of time, please make sure in advance that it does not interfere with the competitor's concentration.

Communication during the competition week

The national team shares up-to-date information mainly through the team's Facebook page. Press releases concerning the competition trip are available on STT. Skills Finland's image bank will be updated throughout the competition week, and the images can be used freely in communications about the competition.

Finns in Lyon

The event attracts a large number of Finnish guests.

Skills Finland and the Finnish National Agency for Education are hosting a stand where audiences can come learn about Finnish education, discuss the team and meet other Finns. The stand is located in Hall 1 next to the skill of Metal Roofing.

The support team from Skills Finland participating in the event includes: CEO Maria Ekroth, Office Manager Maria Atzmon, Communications Manager Katja Katajamäki, Communications Assistant Anni Ketola, Graphic Designer Tuija Vento, and Special Needs Advisor Juho Viitanen.

The Team Leaders are Teija Ripattila and Ville-Pekka Arasmo. The Technical Delegate for Finland is Hannu Immonen and the Official Delegate is Marja Vartiainen. Emmi-Maria Husu works at the WorldSkills International extended secretariat during the competition week.
