The Board consists of 19 education experts from education administrations, vocational education and training institutions, companies, and employer and employee organisations.
At its meeting on 20 January 2022, the Board of Skills Finland elected Marja Vartiainen, an education expert from Suomen Yrittäjät (an interest and service organization for Finnish SMEs), as the Association’s new Chair. Sirkku Purontaus, Rector of Central Ostrobothnia Vocational College, representing SAJO ry, was elected as Vice-Chair.
In addition to the Chair and Vice-Chair, Maiju Korhonen (Energiateollisuus ry / Finnish Energy) and Anu Kilkku (Amattiopisto Live / Live Vocational College) were elected to the Bureau that prepares the Board meetings.
“My warmest thanks to the Board for their confidence in my choice of Chair and special thanks to my predecessor, Seija Rasku, whose long-term development work is a pleasure to continue. The Association also has a talented and highly professional body of staff. The annual plan includes a wide range of activities and, while the pandemic continues to pose challenges and risks, together we are working towards alternative approaches to ensure that the agreed events can take place safely and in line with health recommendations,” says Marja Vartiainen.
Skills Finland's long-time Chair, Seija Rasku (Ministry of Education and Culture), handed over the leadership role after ten years. Seija will continue as a member of the Board in accordance with its term of office.
The Skills Finland Board meets 5-6 times a year. During their three-year term of office, the members of the Board undertake to promote the Association’s mission and to act in accordance with the objectives set for the Association. The Board manages the Association’s affairs in accordance with Finnish law, its own rules, and the Association's decisions. Elections to the Board are made in accordance with the line of succession laid down in the Association's statutes. In addition to the education administration and vocational education and training institutions, teacher and student organisations, employer and employee organisations are also represented on the Association’s board.
