RELEASE: World’s top talents were awarded at the WorldSkills World Championships in Helsinki

The WorldSkills Competition’s Helsinki leg ended on Sunday.

WorldSkills medals were awarded today in the Helsinki competitions’ closing ceremony at the Helsinki City Hall. The closing ceremony was opened by Deputy Mayor Nasima Razmyar. Speeches were also given by, among others, CEO David Hoey from WorldSkills International and Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen.

Finland awarded medals for four skills: Floristry, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Fashion Technology. International competitors carried out competition tasks that lasted for four days, in which their competence in different areas of their profession was evaluated.

In addition to the medals, the Medallion for Excellence was awarded to competitors who achieved a higher-than-average score in their skill. A total of 25 of these were awarded.

WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition

This year, the international WorldSkills Competition has exceptionally been organised in 15 countries. Team Finland participates in 26 skills during the autumn. Finland’s event for the four skills was held at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre between 20 and 23 October, and it brought together over 200 Competitors and Experts from 32 countries around the world. Three of the Competitors were Finnish.

The part of the WorldSkills Competition to be organised in Finland is coordinated by Skills Finland, which represents Finland in the WorldSkills International organisation. The Competition in Finland is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Sponsorship funding is also available for the Skills. Many Finnish providers of vocational education and training are involved in organising the Competition.
